A look back at the Catalysing Change Week 2024

The theme of this year’s conference was: “Leveraging Data, Policy, and Perception to Strengthen the African Social Innovation Sector.”
The Catalysing Change Week (CCW) 2024 in numbers
CCW 2024 brought together 5,473 participants across 112 sessions, representing 147 countries.
It was a unique space to exchange ideas and reflect on one central question: How to contribute to developing the social innovation ecosystem ?
A look back at the session
Along with Danson Gichini (World Economic Forum), Eme Essien-Lore (Wealth4Impact) and Dr. Solange Rosa (Bertha Center for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship), Isabelle Hoyaux from ScaleChanger took part in this session focusing on perspectives from the Social Innovation Sector Development and highlighting key strategies to strengthen the social innovation sector in Africa.
The aim was to explore three pillars: the role of data collection, the need for policy reform, and the power of shifting perceptions. These are essential to build a strong social innovation ecosystem on the continent.
Key takeaways of the discussion :
The importance of : 🔸 System change – creating new coalitions, or strengthening existing ones, helps identify collective goals. This builds awareness of social innovation, creates movements, and grows impact. 🔸 Evidence and narratives – Africa must change its narrative. The continent can become a food basket rather than a symbol of food scarcity. This shift requires being more introspective. 🔸 Trust and relationships – relying on peers and coalitions increases systemic impact. Finding ways to engage the private sector is also key so it can play a stronger role in supporting social innovation. |
