Newsletter Nov 2021 🇬🇧 A Whirlwind Of News And Opportunities At ScaleChanger

Un tourbillon de nouvelles et d'opportunités chez ScaleChanger

The past weeks have been very rich for the ScaleChanger team.
Individual support to entrepreneurs and workshops of all kinds have happened: In one month, our activities reached out to more than 150 people!
Among our recent news, we can mention our work alongside e-graine, a French associative movement currently rebuilding its associative pact after a strong development phase, our intervention within the Fondation Entreprendre's "Accelerator", our collaboration within the OECD's RRR project, and the design and facilitation of collective workshops in scaling-up support programmes.

And with so many activities and projects in the pipeline, ScaleChanger is looking for two people to join the team.

Rethinking your association's project and federating your network around common ambitions: An essential step when associations scale up

When organisations experience a significant growth and set important impact goals, they must realign their vision and their mission. This is critical to aim to a common ambition and to find the right strategy to adopt. This means re-examining the organisations' fundamentals as well as embarking key stakeholders; while taking into account the diversity of their realities on the ground. This endeavour is even more important when the organisation's network is decentralised. This is the challenge that e-graine, an associative movement for global citizenship education, has taken on. ScaleChanger happily helped the organisation through this process!

After 15 years of existence and a foot in many territories -through local entities supervised by a national Union- e-graine wished to set a new common vision to 2030 and to involve all their stakeholders. At the end of a diagnostic phase, followed by collective intelligence sessions and prospective reflections with nearly 20 local and interregional workshops, e-graine validated their new associative project last October! 👏👏 It will be translated into a 5-year strategic plan and will serve as a compass for the National Union to fully implement it!

"Thanks to their expertise, their external perspective and methodology, ScaleChanger was able to bring together all the singularities of the stakeholders and associations in a common and shared vision. This collaborative work was carried out over a long period of time. It was necessary to foster cooperation and it is now a real success! We are ready to disseminate it in all our actions and to share it with our partners for our 15-year anniversary!"
Julien Mast, National Delegate at e-graine

Grantmakers committed in the scaling up of social innovations through tailor-made programmes

It is no secret that scaling up takes time and requires a significant human and financial investment. It is generally during this phase that associations need specialised expertise to help them build their strategy and address specific challenges. The good news is that more and more grantmakers are looking into this issue and design comprehensive, long-term schemes that combine financial support with extra-financial assistance. And to be able to provide specific and targeted support, the first step is often to carry out a strategic diagnosis.

This is what the Fondation Entreprendre, which defends the entrepreneurial cause in France, offers with its "Accelerator" programme. This initiative, in which ScaleChanger has already been involved, offers to winning associations in a consolidation or acceleration phase, a 3-year structural support including a substantial financial contribution and tailor-made strategic support. By carrying out a 360° diagnosis with the winners, we help them formalise parts of their model while identifying their strengths and critical points in view of their development ambition. Once the diagnosis is done, we can work on an action plan that the Foundation will help develop by mobilising the right resources at the right time.

The RIKKS platform, a remarkable innovation within the RRR initiative

In 2020, the OECD launched a "global action" covering thirty countries to promote the ecosystems of the Social and Solidarity Economy. ScaleChanger is part of the programme consortium within the "Respond, Rebuild, Reinvent" (RRR) project, alongside 15 other partners. The ambition of RRR is to gather 9 cities (Dublin, Montreal, Rotterdam, Warsaw, San Francisco, Guadalajara, Belo Horizonte, Turin and Bilbao) so they can exchange practices and collaborate to fully embrace and disseminate social innovations developed by SSE actors in response to the Covid-19 pandemic challenges.

Since the launch of the RRR project, ScaleChanger has been working closely with the city of Rotterdam, whose social innovation has been acclaimed by the other cities: the RIKX platform. RIKX is a "marketplace" for social impact that monetises the impact of social innovations responding to the city's public policy challenges. It is also a means to attract public and private investors to finance the deployment of these innovations. The first pilot implemented in Rotterdam contributed to accelerate solutions on access to employment for people furthest from the labor market.

Le changement d’échelle à l’honneur des programmes d'accompagnement de la rentrée

Several support programmes have been launched over the past few weeks and many of them focused on scaling up. ScaleChanger facilitated many sessions and reached out to more than 150 people! This was an opportunity for entrepreneurs to better understand the concept of scale up, to define their strategy and to exchange with their peers.
Among interventions that took place, we can mention the entrepreneurs of Antropia ESSEC, the Foundation La France s'Engage, the digital inclusion actors from Hubik in New Aquitaine, the Kering Foundation, the Bond'Innov incubator, On Purpose, Les Canaux, P'INS from Avise, ...

Each meeting with these cohorts is an opportunity for ScaleChanger to discover or rediscover solutions that shine and change the game, while confronting us with new challenges. All this inspiration make us want to experiment and innovate more!
